Balchik Botanical Garden

Northern holiday resorts have long gained a following. The northern coast of the Black Sea is even considered the most aristocratic part of the Bulgarian coast with a good-natured and unpretentious air.

It is not difficult to understand why Balchik was chosen during the 20s of the last century by the Romanian queen for her summer residence, a real palace surrounded by a wonderful park. Laid out on a terrace, the garden is home to a multitude of Mediterranean plant species, exotic and sometimes rare. It is also dotted with pavilions, watermills, and a charming Venetian-style culvert.

A unique collection attracts the attention of visitors from all over the world – on an area of 800 square meters there is a permanent exhibition of cacti and succulents. It is the second largest in Europe after Monaco. Here you can see unique plants, some of which bloom once every 100 years, as well as winter hardy cacti, which are also an interesting sight, given that we are used to seeing them in the desert. . Over 400 of the species in this section are protected globally, and some are unique, such as the Galapagos cactus.
